The Next Turn terms

The Next Turn is how the next Twynela fragrance gets made: you tell us a scent memory, you vote on the notes, some of you test the trial blends, and everyone votes on the name. These are the rules. By taking part you agree to them and to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Who can take part

Anyone 18 or older who lives in the United States. One vote per person per round. Twynela team members and their households can submit ideas and test, but cannot vote.

The four stages

  1. Submit a scent memory. A few sentences about a smell you remember. Open for the dates shown on the Next Turn page.
  2. Vote on the notes. We turn the submissions into candidate directions and you vote.
  3. The tester circle. We send trial vials to a small group chosen from people who ask. Testers get the vials free and agree to answer a short questionnaire within 14 days.
  4. Vote on the name. From a shortlist we check for trademark availability first.

Closing dates are published on the page and can change if we need more time or fewer entries. We will say so on the page.

What your submission gives us

You own what you wrote. By submitting it, you grant Twynela LLC a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable license to use, edit, publish, adapt and build on your submission, including to develop, name, market and sell fragrances and to quote it (with your first name and city, or anonymously if you prefer) on our site, packaging, emails and social channels. You will not be paid for it unless a specific program says otherwise in writing. Submissions are not confidential, and we may receive similar ideas from other people or already have them in development; a resemblance between a Twynela product and your idea does not give you a claim to it.

Please only submit what is yours. Do not submit other people's writing, trademarks, or anything unlawful, hateful or sexually explicit. We may decline, edit or remove any submission.

Votes are advice, not orders

Votes and tester feedback guide what we make. They do not bind us to produce, name or release any particular fragrance, and we may change a direction for safety, supply, cost or trademark reasons. If we abandon a round we will say why.

Testers

Trial vials are free, unreleased, for your personal use and not for sale. Any review you post about a trial fragrance must say that you received it free as a tester. We do not pay for reviews and we do not ask for positive ones. You can leave the tester circle at any time by emailing us. Trial blends are not finished products; use them as you would any fragrance and follow the safety guidance on our Safety and ingredients page.

Privacy

We collect your name, email, city and submission; for testers, a mailing address. We use them only to run the program and, if you agree, to contact you about the result. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Changes

We may update these rules between rounds. The rules in force when a round opens apply to that round.
